Narada Muni once went to Vaikuntha and served Mother Laxmi very attentively. SriLaxmi was very pleased and requested Narada Muni to ask for any boon. When the new deities are made,they are carried inside the inner sanctum of the temple and placed in front of the old deities ,facing them. Nobody is allowed inside for a darshan of the Lord. not even the temple priest .The three new deities are carried inside only by descendants of the Daitapati family. The three Daitapatis must be blind folded .The three Daitapatis members fast and meditate the whole day inside the temple. They must bind a piece of Lord Jagannath's cloth around their hands before the transfer of soul. They should not have shaved since the first day of the search party procession. This is also considered as the disappearance ceremony of Jagannath. All the Daitapatis do not shave for ten days. All the houses os Daitapatis required to have white washed. The children and all the members of Daitapati family wear new clothes on the day of the soul transfer. It is very difficult to express what Brahman is. It cannot be seen or touched. NABAKALEBARA

Nabakalebara is an ancient ritual associated with most of the Jagannath Temple when the Idols of Lord Jagannath,Balabhadra,Shubhara and Sudarshan are replaced by a new of Idols. Nabakalebara usually occurs in every 12 to 19 years. A year which has two months of Ashadha as per the Hindu calendar is auspicious to conduct this ceremony. The Last Nabakalebara was celebrated in the year (1996) (2015). Rituals associated with the Nabakalebara. Twelve foot Dhanva mala for Lord Jagannath. Garland is given to Pati Mahapatra family. Secret robes of the Lord are given to the descendants of Bitarachha Mahapatra family. Patta clothes are given to Lenka family and the nine Maharanas. Finally makeup family members touch the forehead of each member of the procession with the Lord's sandal.
